THE CRIMEA – Lottery Winners On Acid

Who’d have thought it, eh? The Crocketts (raucous rabble-rousing Aberystwyth rockers for whom trouble was never too far away) split only for members Davey McManus and Owen Hopkin to get back together as The Crimea. More of the same then? Not at all ? The Crimea have abandoned all the rock ?n? roll and concentrated on putting together a sublime, wistful lilting pop song that has more in common with Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci than The Crocketts.
Davey’s vocals retain a slight rough edge, but this time it’s accompanied by high-pitched guitar warble and strums. Despite the comparisons that will inevitably be generated by this single (including this one), The Crimea should best be judged as a new band, so great is the jump made. They’ll surprise many, but they’ll delight more.
