More Crimea from Drummer Mag

Drummer MagThe December issue of Drummer magazine features part six of Owen Hopkin’s tour diary. Over two pages you can read of his adventures in LA where he’s in search of fame, food and Foo’s. It should be available in all good magazine retailers and if not, you can order it online from their website Up next month is the final part in the series, where Owen and the lads visit San Francisco. And if you missed any of the previous installments (issues July through November 05), they can all be had online at the same website. Huge thanks (again) to Adrian at Drummer mag for the heads up and providing a copy of the magazine. I didn’t even have to go down WH Smith and look for it or anything :o D So yeah, buy Drummer mag, there’s Crimea stuff, pretty drum pictures, drum news, and you’re helping out some great people too.

re: The adult friend finder crap.

Time to start thinking about hacking a CAPTCHA into the comment form for GreyMatter? If there isn’t an existing plugin available…

I can probably help whip something up if it doesn’t matter that it’s done in PHP. Perl/CGI is rather outside my area of experience.

  2. Denyer says:

Oh, and this is also a little worthwhile…

perl/cgi my boy. :o (. but i did stick something in before the host thereatend to block the greymatter files if i didn’t upgrade. so i did, and i dunno if it still works or not, but it uses a blacklist of sites anyway and i’ve not updated that for a while either…

  4. Denyer says:

Nah, I mean it might be possible to create the CAPTCHA image using a PHP script, then pass the session variable to the Perl script.

Or there’s a very basic question-oriented CAPTCHA hack here:

Change the question every week, and I think you’d be in business. :-)

  5. Denyer says:

You’d probably want to include a check for "word", "WORD" and "Word" variants of the answer, mind.

  6. Denyer says:

BTW, could you not whack a line in to simply bar anything with a link title of "adult friend finder" ?

  7. Denyer says:

    Sorry, "including", not "of".

  8. Christopher says:

well, at least it’s making the comments look fill :o )

off to update the blacklist now, i’ve just spent the last 20 HOURS trying to install a simple PVR type program. which I just accomplished in windows in about 20 seconds. now, if i’d had that kind of experience moving from windows to linux i’d be all "wow, it’s so much easier with linux!". as it is, i’m starting to wonder why people bother…

  9. Christopher says:

maybe should’ve said i spent 20 hours trying to install on linux. gotta restart now though, had to stick on .net framework. ah waht i’d give for a simple restart in linux :o (
