THE CRIMEA

Save Y Cwps!

Y CwpsYesterday I was gonna post a message along the lines of “what the fuck? where’d all the fun stuff go? why’ve i not been to a crime gig in years? why’s there still no one using the message board? where’s the old crox army…” Then I though no, that’s just exaggerating…

But Fuckit, cos I just found out that one of The Crimea’s most loved venues, former home-from-home to The Crocketts, Murry The Hump, The Hot Puppies, and every other band ever to grace the green green grass of Aberystwyth, Y Cwps / The Coops / The Coopers Arms pub owned by Glynys and Brendan Sommers has been shutdown.

WHAT THE FUCK? Please, make your way over to www.myspace.com/ycwps and voice your support for the only music venue I’ve willingly spend more than a couple hours in. Hit More for the closest thing to a press release you’re gonna get then check out images page on this site for countless pics of The Crimea playing there and for god’s sake, arbed Y fwcin CWPS!! (i sooo hope that’s the right “save”…)

Denyer: I’d echo the WTF — the Cwps has always been one of the most welcoming places in Aber, to visitors and the student population as well as local people, a real melting pot of music and cultures. It’d be a great shame if the town lost either it or its current owners. Here’s hoping there’s something we can contribute back…

Chwedlau?r CWPS: Amdanaf i:Annwyl Gyfeillion, efallai eich bod chi wedi clywed bod tafarn fyd enwog Y Cwps, Ffordd Penglais Aberystwyth, cartref cerddoriaeth dda o bob math, y peint gorau o Guinness, cymeriadau rhyfedd a rhyfeddol unigryw ac ymwelwyr o bedwar ban byd (a thu hwnt weithiau) wedi cau. Prin yw?r manylion ar y gorau ond daeth i?r amlwg fod Mrs Glynys Sommers a?i gwr a?i phartner Brendan Sommers, wedi cael eu gorfodi i gau drysau?r sefydliad anhygoel hwn. Bydd llawer o?r bobl sydd ar fy rhestr ?cyfeillion? yn gyfarwydd ?r dafarn hon ac nid yn unig y maent yn caru?r lle, maent hefyd yn caru?r bobl sy?n creu cymeriad hynod ac unigryw?r dafarn hon. Yr wyf yn gofyn i chi adael neges o gefnogaeth ar y safle dros-dro hwn www.myspace.com/ycwps i ddangos i?r Tafarnwr a?r Dafarnwraig eich bod chi?n eu cefnogi nhw a?u hymdrechion i gael eu hailsefydlu a hefyd i ddeisebu Bragdy Felinfoel i ennyn eu cefnogaeth hwythau hefyd. Awgrymodd y Bragdy wrthyf i nad yn ysgafn y gwnaethant y penderfyniad, a bod y sefyllfa?n fwy cymhleth nag yr ymddengys ar yr wyneb, ac yn wir nad eu dewis nhw oedd y digwyddiadau a arweiniodd at gau?r ?Cwps”. O?r herwydd gofynnais felly a allai Mr & Mrs Sommers ddibynnu ar gefnogaeth Bragdy Felinfoel yn eu hymdrechion i gael eu hailsefydlu yn y dafarn a fu?n gynhaliaeth ac yn fywoliaeth iddyn nhw am yr 11 mlynedd diwethaf? Bu distawrwydd llethol… Hysbysebwyd tenantiaeth Y Cwps yn y “Cambrian News” ddydd Mercher diwethaf Awst 30 ac felly ni wastraffwyd fawr ddim amser. Honnwyd hefyd efallai fod y Bragdy wedi datgelu rhai manylion cyfrinachol ynglyn ? statws ariannol y Tenantiaid gan amharu o bosib ar unrhyw gamau y gellid eu cymryd ac ar sefyllfa?r tenantiaid. (mae?r manylion yn brin, ni allaf fod yn hollol bendant am hyn!) Hysbysiad cyntaf yw hwn i weld be ddaw, ?codi?r faner a gweld pwy ddaw i?r amlwg “. Yr wyf yn annog pawb sy?n teimlo?n ddigon cryf i roi eu cefnogaeth i fynegi eu diddordeb i ddechrau, ac yna i wylio am y bwletinau (dwyieithog) ar eu tudalennau Myspace. Beth am ichi fynd i?r afael ?r Ddraig ei hun drwy gysylltu ? Felinfoel yn y cyfeiriadau a welir ar http://www.felinfoel-brewery.co.uk Diolch am ddarllen hwn a diolch ymlaen llaw am eich cefnogaeth.

Dear Friends as many of you will have heard, world famous “The Coopers Arms”, in Penglais Road Aberystwyth, home of free music, good pints of Guinness, wierd and often wonderfully unique characters, and visitors from across the globe (and even beyond) has closed down. Details are sketchy at best but it has become apparent that Mrs Glynys Sommers and her husband & partner Brendan Sommers, have been forced to close the doors of this marvellous establishment. A great many of the people on my “friends” list will know and love not only the pub, but also the people that make possible the highly individual character that pervades this establishment . At this point, I am asking you to leave a message of support at this temporary site www.myspace.com/ycwps to show the Landlord and Landlady that you support them in their efforts to become reinstated, and further to petition Felinfoel Breweries to offer their support also. The Brewery have hinted to me that they have not taken this decision lightly, and that the situation is both more complex than it appears, and indeed that the events leading to the closure of “Y Cwps” was not one of their own choosing or making. In the light of this, I enquired as to whether Mr & Mrs Sommers could therefore rely on Felinfoel Breweries to support them in their attempt to regain what has been both their lives and livelihood for the past 11 years? Stony Silence… The Coopers Arms ‘ tenancy was advertised in “The Cambrian News” last Wednesday Aug 30th so they did not waste a lot of time. It has been further alleged that the Brewery may have made public certain confidential details regarding the financial status of the Tenants, possibly prejudicing any proceedings and compromising the tenants’ position. (details again sketchy, dont hold me to this!) This is a first contact notification, basically to “run up the flag and see who salutes”. I urge anyone who feels strongly enough to lend their support to firstly register their interest, and thereafter watch out for the (hopefully bilingual) bulletins in their Myspace pages. If you feel even more brave you could tackle the Dragon head on, by contacting them at the addresses given at http://www.felinfoel-brewery.co.uk Thank you for reading this and in advance for you support.
