One, Two, Free, A Billion

Here’s today’s latest bunch of “ZOMGWTF FREE!!?1??!11!” articles. And this is just the lot that aren’t copies of previously posted articles. I haven’t slept for 48 hours. I swear to god I’m stuck to this chair keeping up with stuff. Gawd, I gotta remember to eat too…

Filter Mag PR ShotUS music mag Filter, erm… filter in with some Crimea news. I wanna say something funny but fucking dieing here, you know? If you know where the pic featured on Filter mag (to the right) is from, lemme know cos I can’t find it anywhere.

Music news site Atomic Ned copy n paste one of Owen’s mailouts. I wonder if an atomic ned is as tasty as it sounds.

Longest forum thread of the day discussing the story goes to The Velvet Rope Forums. The three pages mainly contain discussion of whether 128 kbps equals acceptable quality or not. If it ain’t edible, I don’t care.

Austrailian paper The Age give it quite a few paragraphs, while blog Three Imaginary Girls only give it two, and it was the second highest story at GQ Magazine a couple days ago.

Both the AV Club site and the Idolator site come with plenty of reader’s comments, with the latter being a very good read.

And finally, the Any Given Tuesday blog point you where you need to go. And I need to go rest.

Bizzare? You’re Not Wrong

The SunThe Sun online’s Bizarre column is the next major publication to feature an article on The Crimea’s free album download. It’s so good, one wonders what they want. Anyway, the article’s dated today so you may find a copy in your local newsagent too. If so, let me know as I have some shopping to do.

Regular Crimea news source The Irish Times also mention the free download. It’s written by Jim Carrol, a DJ for Dublin’s Phantom 105.2 who reguarly spits out a few Crimea tunes on his show. Speaking of which, Colin Murray’ll be spinning a new one later today.

Israeli blog ?????? (Tachograph) has a rough translation of the Guardian’s Crimea article in Hebrew (thanks Stefab). Speaking of which, the Guardian’s article was the 2nd lead story on their music page yesterday, which again helps to explain the amount of hits to the site in the past 24hrs being more than there’s been in the past 4 weeks.

And here’s another version of the Reading Fez gig preview posted yesterday. This one’s from the BBC and has a larger version of the same pic.

Thou Shalt Not Read The NME

NMESilly me, thinking I’d get some sleep after that last post…
I think I’ve found the reason for that just slightly abnormal hit count for today. Everyone’s favourite band breaker, the NME just posted this artice on their front page news ticker. Titled “The Crimea give new album away free” it’s about as factually correct as Natalie Dee but don’t let that stop you reading. Instead of tarnishing yourself for life, just hit more to artificially inflate my own page count even more.
Indie nearly-men? Fuck off.

Gonna Be One Of Them Weeks

Guardian UnlimitedThere I was, happily emersed in some Crimea based machinima (don’t fret, all will become clear soon…) when one email changed my plans for the week. “Since the Guardian picked up on the free album, it’s all gone a bit mental.” There’s just a liittlee more to it that that. I’ll mention that when it’s done though, well… Anyway, that Guardian thing… I’ve not even had time to read it yet but the article is online here, though if anyone has a hard copy you I’ll love you long time for it. Like I say, I’ve not read it yet so I can’t say what it’s about, but it looks big, clever, and a bit bandwidth stressing. BTW, more pics from the same series at Getty Image (search for “crimea band”).
Site Stats

I’ve also been told to point all you newbs towards the band’s official website at www.thecrimea.net.

Update: Holy crap - site stats. See right. :o

Free? As If.

Turns out the Daily Mail featured the following review of The Crimea’s new album by Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody at the end of last year:

‘I think 2007 could well be the breakthrough year for the Crimea. The Londonbased band are releasing their second album, Secrets Of The Witching Hour, in February and it’s a wonderful collection of skewed pop songs. Lead singer Davey MacManus’s voice is ragged and sumptuous, and his lyrics morph the mundane into something wildly surreal. At its heart, it’s classic British pop music lush, elegant and gorgeous but it has a dark, disturbing undercurrent, like a wall-rattling party in the basement of a luxurious Georgian townhouse. The Crimea’s music is devilishly brilliant, like all great pop.’ Look out for the new album Secrets Of The Witching Hour will be available in its entirety as a free download from the band’s website from February 14. A three-week UK tour kicks off later that month.

I don’t know about the whole album (hell, as far as I know it’s not even finished yet) but there’s deffinately one song available for free. Sorry to dissapoint anyone. See the previous post, then punish yourself for believing any tabloid lies.

Special Treats

Here’s part three of yesterday’s news downpour, and hopefully the floodgates will now shut for a while so I can get some rest. I’ve got some real special treats in store but first up, some info some more Crimea radio sessions. That would be live sessions, on the radio in Glasgow, Manchester and on Liverpool’s Radio City. Unfortunately, they were on Wednesday. Sorry for not having any info up before, but I only found out via Davey’s MySpace blog on Thursday. Apparently they played a cover of Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now” in Glasgow, and interviews elsewhere. If you happen to have a recording (likely) then I’ve stuck all my e-mail addresses on the bar to the left.
Another public service announcement; Wild UK are organising The Crimea’s official street team, including some mini-raffles at each gig, and they need some help. If you’re available to assist at the Harlow show in London tomorrow then please get in touch with Sam at streetteam@wild-uk.com and he’ll most likely make it worth your while.
Right, good stuff. Channel 4. As well as broadcasting a live performance of Lottery Winners On Acid on the Digital Music Awards on Channel 4 last Tuesday, S4C this Sunday and 4Music err.. sometime… They’ve also behind The Crimea’s first popular kiddie interview! Yes, the kind where they ask what flavour ice cream you like. Not only that, but they’ve stuck the link to it on their main Music Features page! Ohh yes, everything you’ve wanted to know about their looks vs. McFly’s, and their attraction to Rachel Stevens. Next up, a Saturday morning MOM appearance. If it’s good enough for Sleeper, it’s good enough for The Crimea.
If you’re lucky enough to live in the States, you can order a copy of October’s issue 11 of State Of Mind magazine for only $4.00. Ahh, I hear you ask, why would you want to? Their interview with Davey and Andy Stafford from The Crimea of course!
Now for the icing on the cake, and I hope you’ve kept reading this far. They may have been on Channel 4, the official site may have exclusive live videos on the way, but you can watch the band right now on the South By Southwest site who have a near 4 minute video of them playing SXSW 2005, including clips from their performance of Baby Boom, Girl Just Died and Someone’s Crying. And it’s the fourth item on their videos page, no less (with a lower quality version if needed). I do have copies saved incase it’s ever removed, so lemme know if it dissapears and I’ll stick it up here.
Some old news mentioned elsewhere before comes in from the CMU Music Network with their Out Of Africa and live dates post.
Also old, but a little more detailed; Loose Record’s news on the band’s WOXY radio show session.
On the sales front, Picadilly Records have what at first glance seems to be a simple sales listing, but a quick read will revel links to two sample mp3s from the album.
Going even further is the twmsiy* blog who have a news-article-come-review of the album and links to three whole MP3s: the WRG album version, original LWOA version and great remix of Baby Boom by The Vaden Plas.
And if that ain’t enough media for you, check out the other images and Bowery Ballroom photo pages for new Crimea flyers, setlists and live photos thanks to Awreye.

The Fly - May 2003Christ, I’m kept in at work for two hours and suddenly the Crimea world takeover suddenly moves up a few gears. Here’s the latest…
The Fly magazine for May 2003 has gone Crimea crazy, with an introduction from magazine deputy editor and Crimea drummer Owen Hopkin on his tour with the band. There’s also loads of photos of the band, tour dates and a chance to win a signed Crimea camera through the Fly’s website, if you wait a week for it to be updated. You can pick up a copy in your local Barfly venue, HMV or Virgin Megastore for absolutely nothing. Thanks to Craig for the info, and I’ll post more on the magazine when I get hold of a copy.
Two words. Colin Murray. Recording (1:40), tracklisting (or click [More]). That’s another play for W.R.G. on Radio 1 then.
The first review of White Russian Galaxy I’ve seen is up on the SoundsXP website. It’s in the singles section and they like it. If you look hard enough you can also find a review of the band supporting Electric Six at Camden Barfly on Wednesday 23rd October 2002. Click on [More] if you just want to read the Crimea bits.
If you made your way to the Nottingham Social last night, stay tuned to this page for a little improvised good will.
And you might wanna get over to Project Winterhaven’s website and hear Crimea guitarist Julz’s new masterpiece.

John Peel has either been bribed by, or really, really likes The Crimea. They’re set to record a Peel Session for Radio 1 on January 16th, which should be broadcast at a later date. Lottery Winners On Acid also features as one of his reccomended songs from last month in his record box, and currently one of his most important tunes from the Radio 1 Alt record box. Click [More] to see what other songs he likes.
A gig has been planned for February 28th at The Borderline in London, check the gigs page for more news on that.
Site updates - I’ve been busy adding stuff on the band from magazines to the press clippings page, and some more pics to the other pictures page. There’s also a couple more links to other sites, and a new band for you to check out.
General rumours - Davey may or may not be in Austrailia on holiday at this very moment .:. The band are continuing thier search for a new lead guitarist, posibly to make their first appearence at the Borderline gig .:. Craig from thecrimea.tk thinks there’s a new single coming next month, though I’ve heard from a good source that he just made that up.

Merry Christmas

It’s freezing, everyone’s got colds, no one’s visited the site for days and the date says 25th December. Time to wish Happy Christmas to everyone then. Or as Davey would say, “Merry fucking Christmas, I hope that it will snow, I don’t fucking Ho Ho, I’d rather fuck a ho”. By the new year I should have some more reviews of stuff up, including one from Friday’s Independent paper and the stuff from The Fly that I should have got up ages ago. Bye bye.

General Updates.

The Crimea are back in Kerrang! magazine. They’re in this weeks (16/11/02 issue) news section about four pages in, with Davey giving details on the new single, along with a nice pic of the single cover.
Talking of the new single, it was played on on Radio 1 on Monday on the daytime Mark And Lard show. Apparently they said they liked it.
More single news, this time about buying it. Owen’s said the price of mail order for the single has gone up to ?4.49. It apply’s to the sending a cheque off bit, and might apply to the Townsend Records site too, but at current their prices haven’t changed. Owen apologises for the high price, but if you’re at any of the upcoming gigs you should be able to get it at the merchandise stall (if there is one) for ?4.00.
Townsend Records are also selling Davey’s book, Unamazing Disgraces, for ?6.00 ex. VAT on their web site (?8.55 inc. VAT and P&P).
To end with, another confirmed gig date change of sorts. The Monarch gig on the 11th, which I thought had moved to the 10th, is infact on the 11th. It’s all rather confusing. I say just put off buying tickets to anything until the last minute.

Gig changes and Davey in The Fly.

Sorry to anyone who this affects badly, at least Lucifer’s happy, but there’s a couple of confirmed gigs that have changed date. The one at Glasgow Barfly has changed from the 25th to the 28th, and the Camden Barfly gig has changed from the 11th to the 10th. There’s also been two other gigs added to the tour, and I now have more info on the Borderline gig, with a discount flyer coming very soon.
Taking time out from all the gigging, Davey’s been talking to The Fly magazine about everything from music to his house falling down. TheCrimea.tk has the full article, so go there to read it. I’ll put up the full article here when I get my hands on a this months copy of the mag from my local Barfly venue.

Lots of updates.

Gee, have I ever been a lazy boy. So, Kerrang! magazine is out NOW with a nice review of The Crimea in. It’s in the Live Reviews section, and there’s a nice big picture of Davey and Andy, while they’re given 4 out of 5 for the reviewed gig at Dublin Castle on October 1st 2002. It really is a great review, so get a copy now, it’ll be in shops until this Friday. If you miss it, click here to see the article.
Tina Mcclelland has finally uploaded her pictures of The Crimea to her site at http://www.photo2000.co.uk. They were taken at the Black Lion in Salford on September 16th 2002 where the band were performing for the ITC Unsigned event. There’s a large review of the gig in the reviews section, and a small review of the same gig at the Honk - Welsh Music On-Line site. Click here for that review, or click on [More].
Lucifer’s been shipping out copies of ‘Woman’ magazine to a few lucky crox fans. Included is a very intresting article on Owen and his girlfriend taking part in an ‘I Love You, But I Don’t Love That’ section involving certain items of clothing owened by the two. I’ve had orders not to reveal it, but if you can get ahold of the September 9th issue of the magazine, offer as much as you can. It’s worth it.
Last of the updates is that Owen’s emailed me about dates when they tour the country to support their new single release. As expected, they’re only playing the Barfly venues so far. Currently there’s five gigs that should be happening, and possibly another in late November. Keep checking the gigs page as I get more details on each show.

Kerrang review.

A quick note to say that the issue of Kerrang! magazine with a live review of The Crimea in is released tomorrow. Go and buy it.
