Gone but not forgotten. RIP Davey’s Non-Tooth.
CDs you should listen to if you haven’t already…
El Toppo by the Llama Farmers, a lovely autumny album, listen and watch the leaves fall down.
The It Girl by Sleeper, unless it’s just me who’s stuck thinking “what do I do now?”…
That’s all, it’s not like I have a wide ranging taste in music or anything. Why not try the NME for that? hahahaha mmmm :o\
It’s all about Hip-Hopkin today. Ex-Crocketts/current Crimea drummer Owen is suddenly all over the web. So aswell as revealing that his favourite colour is purple (?!?), here’s what else he’s been up to lately…
Halflight. Yeah I know I mentioned this last time, but now I found the article :o) “The ’special guest’ drummer (from Welsh band The Crimea) in Owen Hopkin keeping the beat perfectly.” Check it.
Maybe this could be why they got that support slot? Unless he really does like “POP” that much. Not that I’m sugesting anything, like…
And he’s been writing some mag articles again, this time for Drummer magazine, with a couple of his interviews apearing in the June (”Owen Hopkin sits down with Primal Scream’s beat controller”) and July (”Black Eyed Peas’ Keith Harris sets Owen Hopkin’s pants on fire with his burning beats”) 2004 issues.
Happy and sad news for you today…
Happy: God damn my memory I forgot already… so I’ll get on with the sad for a sec…
Sad news: Wait wait… I just used my brain and the sad news is no longer aplicable… so neither any happy or sad news today then… fooking ‘eck…
Well one thing you can’t miss, that twat bush & dick have managed to convince most of America they’re the good guys again. Sadly the rest of the planet knows differently.
Oh oh I remembered the happy news… Halflight’s Susbside EP has been reviewed… somewhere… and I’ve been to soo many sites today I’ll never find the page in the history… it did say something good about Owen, i promise…. but they’re playing Aber on the 12th :o) like it matters to anyone as no one but me lives here anymore. Maybe I should just go do something useful instead of writing crap here :o\ Hopefully the next update I’ll have remembered something :o( Hands up all who think I should just piss off down to the refectory for some rubarb crumble *sticks hands in air* woo. cept it’s closed in 8.. no.. 7 minutes. Fookit…
2 minutes… :o\
So John Peel’s dead, which’d be a huge fucker if The Crimea were still releasing stuff here. Cept they’re not, so it’s only a huge fucker for every other decent band on the planet. :o(
But anyway, I finally got my copy of The Croc.. er.. The Crimea’s Lottery Winners On Acid EP this morning, after much hastle at the Uni post collection desky place thing… nothing new, though some (probably American) type’s stuck a nice pic of a car driving down the wrong side of the road on the back cover. And it’d make sooo much more sense if it was actually an Englishman who put it there. Think about it.
I did have some Crockett’s news… ummmm…. umumumumumum…. *still umming*….. fuckit. Maybe if I stick this on the web it’ll come back…
Oh yeh oh yeh… I probably didn’t wanna remember this anyway but err, you know The Crocketts have split when a kid in Aber comes up to you pointing at the Crox logo on your top saying “What’s ‘The Crocketts’?”. Dear lord let me never wear a ‘The Hot Puppies’ top. At least not while they’re still around.
It now includes the discography, promo and compilation info aswell as all the lyrics :o)
I’m sat here listening to numerous different versions of Opposite Ends, and thinking I should probably update stuff. Sounds about right…
Klutzville Promo EP review. And they bloody love it. Cept for some reason they think there’s a group called The Crimea and a guy called Andy Norton playing on it. Lord knows what that’s all about. Read it here.
Halflight, for whom Owen Hopkin played drums on their recent Subside EP, just played the CMJ festival in New York (much like a certain other band) and will return to the UK tommorow (Monday 18th) to play The Cavern Club in Liverpool. The would be The Cavern Club then. Still, I don’t see them on US morning radio, eh? :o) Oh, and they’re playing Aber in November. Nice. Check their site for more.
Project Winterhaven (well actually, just Julz) have been around the world and back again. Again. And after playing such renowned locations as ‘a back street in asmall town near calais’ and ‘the back of a van in a bordeaux winery carpark’, she and the other members are now off to the US (isn’t everyone?) to play some proper gigs. Well actually, with seemingly little planning, lead singer/ex-Crimea guitarist Julz managed to get herself and friends onto numerous gig bills and even onto a radio show. Oh and they got some stuff nicked from their van too, so if you can spare the odd mic or two, and a guitar tuner… video camera… some “wicked earings”?!?… i’m sure they’d appreciate it. Err.. yeah so, if you’re around, and frankly it seems like there’s no point staying here if you wanna hear some good bands, they’ll be at Baltimore 22 October, Norfolk 23 October,Baldwin City 25 October with Tommy Emmanuel, 29th October - AJ´s Bar and Grill - Jacksonville Florida, October 30th - Eddies Attic - Atlanta Georgia Supporting Halcyon.
And if you’d like to buy some old S Club 7 CDs… As if… they’re way too good to sell, but I do have some of my old CDs / video games currently for sale up on eBay. Maybe avoid the Steps (sadly, that’s not a joke), but I highly recommend the set of seven Sleeper singles, if I didn’t have em already there’s no way I’d be selling them at all.
Due to Owen / Davey & co. going to America as The Crimea to record things for a couple of months, they’re not gonna be able to send out any Crox/Crimea merch until they’re back. And when they do return I’ll have an updated shop page to dazzle you.
The Hot Puppies (from Aber) have a new single out, called Green Eyeliner. You can get it from… somewhere… Track Records York’ll prolly have it… They’re playing London, Bristol, Bath and Aber this month too.
Mindasuno are also touring this month, and should be in session for Radio Wales’ Adam Walton by the end of the year. You will want to listen to it…
I’ve just changed the stylesheet around a bit, dunno if it’s better like this or not, so lemme know…
Good thing *yay*: verdana font - easier to read and it’s smaller vertically so i can fit more stuff on a page (especially good with horizontal frames), it’s easier to read cos it’s not so bright…
Bad thigs *boo*: verdana font is wider so it’s made the lyrics menu page mess up a bit, and the site looks like it’s been put through the wash a few too many times compared to the crimea one…
*Yay* i guess this is the one most poeople come for so here it is - the all new & improved, toatlly Firefox compatible LYRICS PAGE *g*.
FINALLY someone other than myself can be bothered to make a Crimea site :oD www.bandbuilder.com/thecrimea and yes, the tracklisting is very much similar to the Klutzville EP. Infact, it all but is the Klutzville EP, cept with the re-recorded versions of stuff and I can’t quite remember which those are but I think it’s only LWOA… so basically an EP of the last crox/klutz stuff without all the new crimea stuff inbetween :oD :oD they say you can buy it online too. I wouldn’t, but for anywhere from £8 to £13 for imports :o\… oh and they copied my crimea logo too :oP well, the red/white bit…
