THE CRIMEA

Weyheyyyy…

YouTube account’s suspended! Finally, I have some street cred! And clearly not quite as much copyright permission over Crimea and Crocketts vids than one would hope an unofficial come official come unofficial come possibly-soon-to-be-official-again website could have. Ah well, back to the regular downloads it is, until I find another solution. This would never have happened if my Media Player For The Web? aka. “Distributed YouTube” idea had taken off / been invented in the first place. Oh well…

Blog Software Recomendations?

If anyone knows of some decent blog software that can accomplish what’s currently being done here (just the main page (fully customised template and CSS) and archive (don’t really care, just needs custom CSS), the rest of the site is hand-coded html), but has decent comment/spam controls and is reguarly updated, then please leave a note on the message board. I’m thinking of ditching the current software, Greymatter, unless I can find a decent hack for comment spam control (such as a random character generator), and it looks like it’s way past it’s sell by date in terms of software updates. Plus, my hosts seem to hate it :oP

Happy Christmas :o)

OMFG.

Oh. My. Fecking. Gawd.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately (really, I have a proper excuse and everything this time). Just spent two weeks sans interweb connection, seems my father couldn’t put 2 and 2 together when lightning hit the telegraph pole outside and electrical equipment connected to the telephone line stopped working. He also put off telling me this until I’d figured out and fixed the problem myself a month later. God help the poor tech support guys working the ISPs of the country.

So yeah, what the hell’s going on on the internet lately? Someone mention a Baby Boom release? Oh wait… I did… I’m not that far behind then… 21st of August I believe. And no, I know shit all other than the mailout I managed to take a 5 second peak at on my dad’s work puter. Also said something about a big swap and a holiday to a far off land. Fucking need it. I’ll swap a father, middle age, homer simpson like qualities, fucks up rather than missis out, Owen?

Shit, gotta check email now. Can you say spam 300 times?

Mclusky Split

Mclusky Split! A sad day for some of us, more over at Mclusky.net.
In happier news, if you read the crimea site, you’ll be pleased to know I got everything backed up. Infact, the whole hard drive seems to be working fine again now. It only cost me £100 to find that out :o\

Site Stuff

mehehehe i have sooooo much cool stuff to put on this site. if it ever gets done. booo :o(
crimea should def. be playing at the cmj thing in new york. julz is gooonnnee… again… country hoping or something but i have some of her cds to give away too *g* if you want me to take a pic of somewhere in aber for you i will cos it’s not like i’m gonna have much better to do there. cept uni work. like that matters. and until dacey’s house falls down again that’s about all the interesting stuff i have to say.

Live Forever

I’ve not actually listened to it all yet but the tracklisting speaks for itself. If you weren’t around in 96, or more importantly, if you were, go out and buy the Live Forever britpop compilation. £7 down W.H.Smith, almost as cheap as a blowjob eh Davey? And I’ve almost forgoten everything the jack-in-a-box-on-a-stage said to me on tuesday…. Fuckit, i forget everything :o\
Oo yeh, the site might dissapear for a couple days next weekend. Gotta move hosts and stuff and apparently it fooks things up. Send me your old crocks pics n things so I can be bothered to finish this site. I’m too lazy.

Coming Soon

I know you probably thought it would’ve been here ages ago, but I’m still working on the Crimea site and the Crocketts one is a right mess. Expect it sometime in the next couple of months :o(.
Though I just took a look at the Muse site and shat myself. That thing must’ve taken like, five years to code, or something. Oh wow the picture changed :oD My sites are so crap :o\

MP3s

Are back. Woohoo. Get your single clips here, and for those in the know, the Sleeper MP3s here.

Nothing new… yet.

Just to let you all know that’s there’s a load of good Crimea stuff coming up in the next week, I just don’t have time to add loads of updates just yet, so keep visiting the site for more Crimea goodness. If there’s anyone out there that can give me a hand with the site design making it look less of a mess, get in contact and if you’ve got one, send a web address to an example of your work.

It’s all happening…

The Crimea have just played their first two gigs this year, and who was to fill the position of lead guitarist but none other than the first female band member since Hannah provided some vocals back in 1995. Giving away more than Owen wants to, Julia Parker (or Julz if you know her) has said that she’s part of the band unless she has “a huge row with anyone”. What can I say other than Kick Ass.
XFM are bringing in the band to record a few songs for the Music:Response show on Thursday 27th of this month. One song should be broadcast at around 8.00pm, and I’d listen to the rest of the show incase they decide to play anything else. You can hear XFM on 104.9 FM in the London area, through digital TV and radio or online via the XFM website.
The next series of Cable TV, available through BBC 2 Wales, will be featuring The Crimea as guests on one show. There’ll be more details posted about that later, as soon as I get ahold of some.
The Independent newspaper has given the upcoming Crimea show at The Borderline this Friday the top spot in it’s ‘Five Indie’ish Things’ gig listings for the week, putting them ahead of both the Athelete and Hell Is For Heroes gigs.
Site regulars will have noticed that the normal message board has dissapeared again. If anyone spots a decent type board that can be used as a permanent replacement, then let me know at christopher@inaudible.co.uk.
I’ll end with something that has nothing to do with The Crimea, as on Thursday evening I was in The Crocketts’ home of Aberystwyth, just at the right time to see three other local bands The Keys, The Hot Puppies and Gabrielle 25 do a gig for the Radio 1 Exposure Tour. There’s a review of the whole event here, and fuck me does Andy’s Records have a lot of Crox CDs for sale :o).

Latest News.

The Crimea’s Peel Session will be aired TONIGHT on John Peel’s Radio 1 show, which runs from 10.00pm until midnight, and the four recorded songs will probably be spread out between the show. You can listen online via Radio 1’s website but if you miss it, you’ll still be able to hear a recording of the show on the site and I may get it on MP3 and let you download it from here. More details on that later.
Bombay Sapphire Coma made it’s radio debut on Peel’s show last night; I’ve almost lost count of the number of Crimea traks he’s played now. Until next Tuesday, you can click here to hear a recording of the show, the song starts at about 1 hour and 39 minutes in. Instead, you can download the song from the MP3 page, and have a look at the show’s traklisting on the Radio 1 website here, or click on [More].
Staying with Radio 1, and Davey’s not the only MacManus to be inhabiting the station’s studios. His sister Annie also produces the Colin Murray show, on just before John Peel’s.
And you’ll all be pleased to know that the old message board is back. Re-visit it at http://212.87.85.170/boards/cayweb/forum.asp?L=24.

Message board dissapearance

I’ve changed the message board to an old one I used to use for this site until I figure where the usual one’s dissapeared to.

Site updates.

Just a load of site related updates, and a little bit of info from Owen Hopkin.
Photos from the Crimea gig at Glasgow Barfly in November have been added, thanks to Lucifer.
A diray section has been added but at the moment it just looks like a big Crimea gigography. Check it out here.
A quick guide to various incarnations of the band has been put in the ‘Who are The Crimea?‘ section.
The shop has been updated, there’s no more WBMS&W albums but there’s some very cheap James Dean-esque promos.
The Crimea should be playing somewhere in Surrey University on Febuary 11th, I’ll have more deatils on that soon in the gigs page.
Finally, the news from Owen is that “the search for a guitarist is going well” and they’ll “know by next Wendnesday who the fifth member is going to be”. A game of ’spot the new Crimea member’ may well be going on in Surrey in a few weeks.

Site updates.

I’ve put up something about the Monarch gig on the review page, so far there’s no picture with it.
Someone asked me to put up Davey’s TGBR song meanings from crocketts.net for them, so as it’s the one thing I actually have from the site, they’re in the info section.
And I’ve been trying to redisign the main page as it’s getting a bit cramped. I didn’t succeed. So if anyone wants to do it for me, feel free. Remember it has the menu bar at the side.

Monarch photos.

The photos I took at The Monarch last night are up on the photos page. Others should be coming next week. Would anyone like to take over a Crimea fan site?
